Mission and Outreach Philosophy

The overall goal of Rye Presbyterian Church's mission program is to integrate tithe, time and talent in an effort to do God's work in the world. With that broad perspective in mind, the Mission and Outreach Committee, which is responsible for RPC's mission and outreach programs, operates on the following principles:

Our budgetary goal is for RPC to tithe for mission - allocating at least 10% of the annual operating budget to mission giving.

Our budgeted funds are typically allocated along a guideline of 50% to projects within our community and 50% to Presbytery, to fund mission projects in the wider world. However, on special occasion we do support unique projects both regionally, nationally and internationally, apart from this guideline.

We define "community" broadly, to encompass not only the City of Rye, but also neighboring areas.
For a "community project" to receive funding, we strongly prefer that one or more members of RPC be actively involved, giving of their time and talent in support of that project.

We also sponsor special offerings during the year, e.g., One Great Hour of Sharing, Peacemaking, and the Christmas Joy Offering. These special offerings are designated for specific organizations, often internationally.
Beyond money, we see ourselves as a community church, opening wide our hearts and our doors to a variety of community - based organizations.

Lastly, we see our mission and outreach programs as models of inclusiveness, not limited to Presbyterians, but open to all.
